Meet the 2015-16 Cleveland Foundation Board
The Cleveland High School Foundation is governed by a board of current parents of Cleveland students as well as a member of the high school administration. We always welcome new members, so if you would like to join the Foundation Board and further it's important work, please contact us.
Wendy Cogan is returning for her fifth year as a CHS Foundation member. Wendy has been a volunteer and advocate for public schools for the past 12 years. She formerly worked in development for several local non-profits, but currently is self-employed doing property management. Her daughter Katie is a CHS graduate and daughter Maya is a sophomore. Wendy enjoys staying involved in her children’s education and has been very impressed by Cleveland. When time allows, she enjoys yoga, hiking, biking, walks through the neighborhood, trying new restaurants and any chance to travel.
Eric Friedenwald-Fishman is the proud dad of CHS graduate Max and CHS junio Sophie. He has enjoyed serving as the chief of staff to PTA president Rebecca Friedenwald-Fishman. He also had the honor of serving with the coolest group of CHS parents on the Dawn Patrol for the all Night Grad Party. When he is not volunteering for CHS, skiing or cooking he can be found at Metropolitan Group (MG). As MG’s creative director, Eric designs environmental, public health and social justice campaigns for foundations, non-profits and public agencies. Eric is the co-author of Marketing That Matters (published in six languages), a contributor to Stanford Social Innovation Review online and a frequent speaker on applying creative expression and communication to advance social change.
Melissa Hurley is serving her second year as a CHS Foundation board member. Daughter Vivi is a sophomore at CHS and son Tommy a 8th grader at Hosford MS. With previous experience serving on the Abernethy Foundation and Hosford PTA, Site Council and PTSA, she is happy to have a small part now in supporting the Cleveland Community. Melissa spends her days promoting geosynthetic solutions to the construction industry and her free time at kid sporting events or on a barstool at Clay's Smokehouse, the most reliable place to find her cute husband, Matt.
Christina Marcoules is the Cleveland Foundation Treasurer. This is her third year on the Cleveland Foundation Board. Her son, Nicholas Paesler, is a junior at Cleveland. Christina is also currently Treasurer of the Sellwood Middle School Foundation as she has a 8th grader there. She is an Assistant Vice President in Enterprise Delivery Services at US Bank. Christina is an avid gardener, cook, and Land Rover enthusiast. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her two French Bulldogs Sport and Basil in Neskowin.
Matt Olenski is the Foundation's president, webmaster and a regular contributor to school events and fundraising. His son is a recent graduate of CHS and his daughter is a CHS junior. He is also a board member of Save Our Elms, dedicated to preserving the majestic elms and all trees in Ladd’s Addition. Matt is an executive in the technology industry. He enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, science and astronomy.
Jan Watt is the Special Projects coordinator at Cleveland and serves as a liaison between the school and the Foundation Board. Jan has spent her professional career at Cleveland, previously teaching journalism and social sciences and advising the yearbook and newspaper before transitioning into her current position role for the school.
Eric Weeks is in his second year with the Cleveland Foundation, after completing prior tours of duty as the Treasurer of the Abernethy Foundation and a member of the Hosford Foundation. Eric’s son, Ethan, is a junior at Cleveland. Eric is a VP at Legacy Health Medical Group. In his copious free time, he enjoys running, woodworking, traveling, watching sports, and playing games.
